Eucolait celebrates the conclusion of trade negotiations between EU & Indonesia

Eucolait celebrates the conclusion of trade negotiations between the European Union and
Indonesia on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This landmark
achievement, reached after nearly a decade of negotiations, opens new opportunities for
the EU dairy sector in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic markets.

Indonesia is the EU’s fourth-largest destination for dairy exports and by far the biggest
market in Southeast Asia, with a population of nearly 285 million. In 2024, EU dairy
exports to Indonesia were valued at over €320 million, consisting primarily of whey
powder, skimmed milk powder (SMP), butterfat, cheese, and lactose.

The agreement will liberalise 98.5% of trade flows, including dairy products such as milk
powders, cheeses, and infant formula. It will help level the playing field for EU dairy
exporters vis-à-vis key competitors.

The CEPA will also protect 221 EU geographical indications (GIs), including several iconic
European cheeses. Beyond tariff elimination, the agreement addresses non-tariff barriers
by introducing faster, simpler, and more predictable export procedures for EU businesses.

Importantly, the agreement includes binding commitments on sustainable development,
and environmental standards, alongside provisions to enhance supply chain resilience.

Eucolait calls for the swift ratification and implementation of the agreement and looks
forward to deeper cooperation and expanded dairy trade between the EU and Indonesia.
